Workshops
ONE and TWO day LOCAL LUANG PRABANG PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
WITH ADRI BERGER
(for 1 to 4 people maximum) Reference:BTWS0102
These workshops are designed to quickly achieve better results and are entirely hands on with the photographer. The short workshops are flexible to suit your own experience. We will work with a local guide and we will show you how to get the most from the time spent and your camera. We’ll show you some tricks of the trade and introduce some fundamental compositional rules where appropriate, and show some ways of working which will lead to better images. It doesn’t matter what level you have we will help you to improve your ways of seeing and improve the results of your work. The workshops are held in the surroundings of Luang Prabang and include visits to a temple and a local village with a guide who can help with detailed information and with communication. We can discuss the interests and come up with a plan for the day or days to suit your ideas and the places you’d like to visit and photograph. Please check a few sample programs that can be followed or adapted according to personal preference.
One DAY workshop:
We recommend getting together the evening before the workshops to quickly assess the level of the participants and to have an introductory talk.
Early Morning
5.30am:
Meet at Big Tree Café (or other agreed location) and we walk to where the alms giving to the monks takes place around the corner.
7- 7.30am:
Early morning market in the centre of Luang Prabang
9am Breakfast Big Tree Café
During breakfast we can discuss options for the rest of the morning and the afternoon:
Some ideas:
Buildings and a choice of many Temples in Luang Prabang show outstanding examples of the fusion of traditional architecture and Lao urban structures with those built by the European colonial authorities. It’s unique, remarkably well-preserved townscape illustrates a key stage in the blending of these two distinct cultural traditions.
Local Markets with a chance to portray daily life, Mekong river journey.
We break for lunch around 1pm
We then follow agreed schedule for the afternoon. For example this could be a visit to one of the villages down by the Mekong River where we would spend time putting together a small portrait story or village essay. On the way back we may get the sunset over the Mekong River.
END of 1-DAY workshop
Two-DAY workshop:
We recommend getting together the evening before the workshops to quickly assess the level of the participants and to have an introductory talk.
Day 1: Same as one day workshop.
Day 2
8am : Start at the Big Tree café with a quick discussion of the previous days work over breakfast.
How to build a story discussion/review of some techniques.
10am: We concentrate mainly on one or two locations that will allow for the participants to work on an individual story in or around town and go out gathering material for a mini story/portfolio.
1pm: Lunch Big Tree café or somewhere on location depending on choice of story.
2pm: We continue the work from the morning and concentrate mainly on the chosen subject. Towards the end of the day we will go down to the Mekong to shoot some more sunsets if participants choose to do so.
Dinner and evaluation of the work in Big Tree Café.
Finish 7.30pm
END OF WORKSHOP
LANGUAGE:
Workshop is given in English and include a local guide for help with translations.
Cost for workshops, please send us a message for prices.

Rural Life in Laos
Laos is one of the lower developed countries and life especially in the rural areas can be tough and often is a struggle. But the gentle pace shows a beauty in the spirit of the people. This set of photographs shows village and family life in a rural northern setting of the country.
The photographs are part of a campaign conducted for Save the Children under the name of Our Promise. Please contact me for more information about this work; hello@adriberger.net
Saigon Cinderella
This beautiful portrait was made while working on an assignment with Symphonie from the UK. We were creating a set of photographs that showed different aspects of life in Vietnam and in this case the photo was made in Saigon.
With photographs I can and try to tell a story.
Often I set up a scene that I interpret from a fleeting moment I have seen before. I like candid shots and even though a photo may have been posed and set up, I like to add an edge of reality, either it has actually happened before, or it is about to happen.
These moments can then lead and inspire to work on actual documentaries, the reality, as also shown on this page in the portfolio from Life in Rural Laos.
The woman in this photo is about to embark on a night out in Saigon, dressed up, looking very sharp, and here portrayed in a very calm manner, the calm before the storm moment.
