One Day Workshop Itinerary:
(Optional) introductory talk & drinks the evening before the workshop
Morning 5.30am
We will start the day early, to photograph the morning alms giving, learning about the techniques and concepts of ‘local & street’ photography. From ethics and fear, to technical settings like motion and long shutter speeds, to concepts.
This is followed by a trip to the morning market to shoot in candid ways and concentrate on environmental portraits, and learn how to recognise framing, composition etc.
After a short break & breakfast at the Big Tree Café:
This early session will lay some of the groundwork for the rest of the day’s work. The rest of the day will be spent photographing around areas in and near Luang Prabang. First up will be Phousi Market where we continue to capture the spirit of a local Lao market. We will also set up in an area with a small backdrop and ask people to pose in front of the camera. This will go beyond the candid and requires skills to get people to agree to give some of their time.
Each participant will take turns and guides will help you to communicate with the local vendors and market workers.
We break for lunch at the Big Tree Café aound 12.30pm, then take a boat to Ban Pak Lueung about 30 min downstream. Here we look at village life and create a photo essay. From the buildings to the people, to the river views and anything else we can capture. We discuss composition, portraiture, environment, light etc.
Depending on weather we’ll head back to Luang Prabang around 5pm to capture some nice sunsets over the Mekong River.
End: 6pm – 6.30pm.
